Protest! Workers in the agriculture and food industries, on the street, demand an increase in the minimum wage – Monitorul de Galati

The Federation of Trade Unions in the Food Industry (SINDALIMENTA) announced through a press release that it will organize on Thursday 12 May 2022, at 11.00, a protest march in front of the Ministry of Agriculture headquarters on Carroll Street. Bucharest.
The union leadership says it made the decision because “the government is ignoring our request to redress the great injustice that occurred when adopting a bill to create a guaranteed minimum wage of 3,000 total lei in the food and agricultural industry.”
“The future law in its current form greatly disadvantages workers in mineral water, other bottled water, soft drinks, fruit and vegetable juices, beer and fish farming, as they will not benefit from its provisions. About 10,000 employees have been excluded from the provisions of the future law, which has been waiting some time for its passage by the president. Klaus Johannes.
The problem is due to the fact that the food and beverage industry sector activity is divided into two CANE codes: 10 and 11. CANE code 10, which refers to the food industry, includes food processing, dairy, oil and bakery products. and processing and preserving meat, fish, crustaceans and mollusks, as well as the manufacture of animal feed preparations. The bill passed by the House of Representatives last month, as a decision-making body, provides for salary increases in the food industry only to employees in areas listed in CANE 10. CANE 11 includes, among other things, the production of fruit and vegetable juices, soft drinks and the production of mineral water Other bottled water (CAEN code 1107) and beer (CAEN code 1105). Since the project does not refer to these activities, the employees in the respective sectors, although integrated into the food industry, cannot benefit from the salary increase.
On the other hand, it must be said that for some incomprehensible reason, fish farming workers were also excluded from the provisions of the future law,” as stated in the aforementioned statement.

“Data that collide head to head!”

The Union states that there is another problem resulting from the lack of clarity at the moment of application of the provisions of the law, because it contains data that conflict face to face.
“If Article 3 states that it will come into force from June 1, 2022, we read below that it will come into force on January 1, 2023. The lack of professionalism with which this law was adopted, if necessary, shows what respect is paid by members of Parliament. for Romanian employees.
All calls by SINDALIMENTA to the Ministry of Agriculture and the Agriculture Committee of the Chamber of Deputies to correct this fatal error were completely ignored, despite the violation of the rights to the salaries of 10,000 employees by representatives of the Romanian state.
Under these circumstances, the only form of protest we have to draw the governors’ attention that they cannot mock 10,000 employees is to organize a protest march in front of the Ministry of Agriculture.
Please note that if these problems are not resolved, we will appeal to the European and international organizations to which the federation belongs, we will turn to the Romanian Constitutional Court on discrimination in the same sector of activity, and last but not least, we will launch the measures for a general strike in the food industry, ”the federation concluded the statement that Al-Ittihad sent it to the press today, Wednesday, May 11, 2022.
